Parker P2/P3 Axial Piston Pump Overview
The Parker P2 and P3 are variable displacement, open-circuit axial piston pumps in swashplate design, developed for heavy-duty mobile hydraulic applications. Both series share the same housing and mounting interface, with displacements from 60 to 145 cc/rev and continuous operating pressures up to 320 bar.
The P2 is a self-priming standard version. The P3 adds a built-in impeller, achieving higher self-priming speeds for operation in high-altitude environments or systems with restricted inlet conditions. An integrated ripple chamber — standard on all side-ported units — reduces outlet pressure pulsation by 40-60%, significantly lowering system noise without additional components.
Parker P2/P3 Key Features
Direct PTO mount — Compact envelope and unique port layout designed for direct mounting on mobile transmission PTOs — no adapter brackets needed. Standard on most construction, forestry and material handling transmissions, significantly reducing installation cost and complexity.
Integrated ripple chamber — Reduces outlet pressure pulsation by 40-60% compared to a pump without this technology — standard on all side-ported units. Less ripple means quieter systems, longer hose life and reduced noise insulation requirements on the machine.
P3 built-in impeller — The P3 version adds an internal supercharge impeller, enabling higher self-priming speeds and reliable operation at altitudes up to 3,660 m (12,000 ft) or with restricted inlet conditions — common in forestry and mining equipment.
Multiple control options — Pressure compensator (PA), load sensing (LA/LB) and torque-limiting with load sensing (TA/TB/TC/TD) — all available as factory-fitted options. Torque control is particularly valuable when engine power is shared between hydraulics and drivetrain.
Through-drive capability — Accepts a second pump in tandem across all frame sizes, enabling compact dual-pump configurations for machines with separate implement and steering circuits.

Parker P2/P3 Applications
The P2/P3 series covers the most demanding mobile hydraulic markets.
Construction equipment — Wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks and surface drill rigs. Direct PTO mounting eliminates adapter costs; torque control (TA-TD) protects the engine during combined high-flow and high-pressure duty cycles.
Material handling — Reach stackers, heavy-lift trucks and all-terrain mobile cranes where high-pressure variable flow and a compact installation envelope are both required.
Forestry machinery — Forwarders and harvesters frequently operate at elevation or with long suction lines. The P3's built-in impeller maintains full flow output in these conditions.
Mining & drilling — Dump trucks and drill rigs in contaminated environments where robust design, long service intervals and reliable self-priming at any altitude matter.
Agriculture & municipal equipment — Harvesters, mowers and vocational vehicles benefiting from the compact envelope, load sensing control and low-noise ripple chamber technology.
Defense vehicles — Mobile equipment requiring reliable hydraulic power under extreme environmental and duty conditions, with flexible mounting options to suit diverse vehicle platforms.
